David Beckham, 38, the global soccer superstar has announced his retire. "I'm thankful to PSG for giving me the opportunity to continue but I feel now is the right time to finish my career, playing at the highest level," Beckham said.

He started his career in 1993 with the Manchester United, where he won six Premier League titles, the Champions League, two FA Cups and the Intercontinental Cup. After leaving United in 2003, he played for Real Madrid and the Los Angeles Galaxy, winning titles with both of those clubs. Beckham recently won a league title with Paris Saint-Germain.

On the international stage, Beckham has made 115 appearances for England's national team – a record for a player. "To this day, one of the proudest achievements is captaining my country," Beckham said. "I knew every time I wore the Three Lions shirt, I was not only following in a long line of great players, I was also representing every fan that cared passionately about their country. I'm honored to represent England both on and off the pitch."

Beckham is also notorious known for his collection of red card penalties. He received 41 yellow cards and 4 red cards in his time at Real Madrid. He was the first England player to ever get two red cards. During the 1998 FIFA World Cup, he hit defender Diego Simeone in the face after he was fouled. Throughout his 420 competitive games for England, AC Milan, LA Galaxy, Manchester United, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain he received 7 red cards.

Beckham was the world's highest-paid soccer player in 2004, due to salary and advertising deals.

Beckham will end his career as a soccer player at the end of the season to become an ambassador for Chinese soccer. He released a statement about his retirement stating, "Nothing will ever completely replace the game I love, however I feel like I'm starting a new adventure and I'm genuinely excited about what lies ahead. I'm fortunate to have been given many opportunities throughout my career and now I feel it's my time to give back."
