New York Jets Let Tim Tebow Go After One Season
After just one season, the New York Jets announced Monday they have decided to waive Tim Tebow. This decision could not come at a worst time for Tebow. The Jets released him on the first Monday following the completion of the NFL draft. All other team rosters are possible full, which makes Tebow's chance of finding a job in the league more difficult.
Tebow was drafted by the Denver Broncos in 2010 as a 25th over-all selection in the first-round. The Broncos agreed with the Jets to trade Tebow and a seventh-round choice in the draft for a fourth and sixth round selection. The Jets also had to pay a portion of $5 million to the Broncos due to stipulations in Tebow's contract that the Jets failed to read closely before completing the deal.
He won the Broncos they first AFC West title and first playoff game since 2005. Throughout his NFL career, he has completed 173 of 361 passes for 2,422 yards, 17 touchdowns, 197 yards rushing and 9 interceptions. Recently, Tebow has been ranked among one of five quarterbacks over the past 30 years to complete fewer than 48 percent of his passes with a minimum of 300 attempts in his first three NFL seasons.
The Jets head coach, Rex Ryan released a statement saying, "We have a great deal of respect for Tim Tebow. Unfortunately, things did not work out the way we all had hoped. Tim is an extremely hard worker, evident by the shape he came back in this offseason. We wish him the best moving forward."
No official statement has been released by Tim Tebow confirming his release but he posted a message of Twitter Monday. The athlete infamously known for his Christian faith quotes a Bible verse. "Proverbs 3:5-6: Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding... in all your ways acknowledge Him. and He will make your paths straight.
